On the Mats: Tall Poppy Syndrome
Are you a business owner with that ‘Tall Poppy Syndrome’? What is that? Come and find out, guys.
Hi all, Nathan McDonald here from the Black Belt group of companies; I’m the Chief Business Instructor. Guys, another ‘On the Mats’ episode, and this is all about the Tall Poppy Syndrome. What is that? That is where you look at people and you go, ‘Hey, look, he’s driving this really fancy car’ or ‘he’s got plenty of money’. And you look at that and go, ‘Oh, what a snob, what a yabo, he’s up himself’ and all of that. That is the Tall Poppy Syndrome guys, and as business owners sometimes we get a bit caught up in that. Maybe that was the dream – you saw someone in a flashy car and the dream was to get into business for yourself to actually go and get that. But then you look at people who are there and you think, ‘Oh, he’s up himself’ or ‘he’s snobby’ or whatever else. Guys, it can affect your business. Why is that? Because you know what? That person – who is probably driving the flashy car, that’s got the great business, that’s living the lifestyle that you’re probably dreaming about – has probably gone for years and years of hard work. And last week’s On the Mats episode was all about delayed gratification. They learnt that point; they probably sacrificed so much to where they got to; they’ve probably sacrificed relationships, they’ve probably almost gone bankrupt. But what they did is they persisted, and they got to a point where they’ve got a great lifestyle, they’ve got a great house, they’ve got a great business, so they don’t need to be working at it day in day out.
And this is the thing that you’ve got to look at: are you sitting there with the wrong attitude? Are you sitting there and looking at these people going, ‘Hey’ you know, ‘they’re up themselves’ or ‘they’re yabos’ or you know, whatever, or they’re just not the type of people you want to mingle. Or are those the type of people you want to mingle with? This is what you’ve got to have a look at. You’ve got to curb that Tall Poppy Syndrome. You’ve actually got to sit there and go, ‘Hey, well done; well done for succeeding, well done for getting out there, well done for persisting. I’m going to be like that.’ And that’s the attitude, not that Tall Poppy Syndrome; not putting them down because they’ve gone out and succeeded. You guys go out and succeed. I know you can do it. Go out there and smash it, guys.
And to help you with that success, don’t forget – check out the ‘Path to Business Mastery Course’ guys. I know I remind you every single session, though it is a very very powerful tool to get you there a lot quicker, to get your business and the lifestyle you want a lot quicker.
So guys, curb that Tall Poppy Syndrome; go out and create your own success, reward the people that have actually done it and watch what will happen to your business. Guys, that’s it for me for another On the Mats episode. My name is Nathan McDonald, I’m an Aussie, my message is global, and my passion is business. Bye for now; have fun guys!
