On the Mats: Sick Business
Would you like to find out if your business is sick or not? Let’s go and find out.
Hi all, Nathan McDonald here for another ‘On the Mats’ episode. I just finished a wonderful Hapkido class on a Saturday and I thought, ‘What a perfect time to do an On the Mats episode’. And today we’re going to talk about whether your business is sick and how do you find out if it’s sick or not?
Now, that’s probably a new terminology; you’ve never heard that – business sickness. Well, guys, all it is, is: Are you struggling in business? This might be the easiest way to look at it.
Well, guys, I did a webinar last week, and what was brought up there – I got asked a question: How can you tell if your business is sick? Well, let me take you through a couple of points.
Ok, the first point we’ve got to look at:
1. Do you love getting up and going to your business every day? When you wake up in the morning, do you jump out of bed going ‘I’m really excited about going to my business’? If you’re not, you’ve got to really evaluate whether it’s what you really want to do. Because if you’re not putting passion and energy into it, then what are your customers going to be thinking about? You know, are they going to be feeling it? Are you excited to go to work or your business? This is the first thing you’ve really got to have a look at, and if you’re not, please evaluate where you’re at in business; maybe it’s not for you. You might want to actually go and get a job where you’d have more time and probably make more money, in some instances. So, guys, have a look at your business. Find out if you’re passionate about it.
And the second point we want to look at is:
2. Are you struggling financially? Are you managing to pay your rent on time every single time? Do you struggle to pay yourself? You know, it may be good enough to cover all of your overhead, but are you actually taking money home for you? The business is there to actually provide you an income. So you’ve got to have a look at it financially: Are you struggling financially in your business?
And the last point that we want to have a look at is:
3. Is your business growing? Are you actually moving somewhere? Are you in the same position you were last year and the year before and the year before that? Are you actually growing or are you moving it forward? You may have a comfortable lifestyle, you may have all the time in the world, all the money and your business just hums along but you don’t want to grow it; that’s fine, you’re not in sickness. But what we actually want to have a look at is: Is your business continually growing, is it moving forward? Are you doing things differently now than what you did 6 months ago? Are you putting new team members on? Are you actually growing?
So, what do we do now? We know that our business may be sick. Well guys, go and seek help. This is the most important thing. Here in Australia – and it’s a very important point that when we’re physically sick I know Australians hate going to the doctors. They just don’t like going to the doctors: ‘We’re tough…oh, I don’t need doctors to go get sick’. Please don’t do that in your business. Go and get the help you need to actually grow your business and move forward. Here at Black Belt Business that’s what we do: we’re business instructors; we show you whether your business is sick and what you need to do – the antibiotics – to actually move it forward.
So guys, click on the link below, talk to one of our business instructors. We’re more than happy to show you – or give you the antibiotics – to really get your business going.
