On the Mats: Blog In 10 Minutes
Would you like to know how to write a blog or news article in under 10 minutes? Come and find out how…
Hi all, Nathan McDonald here for another excellent On the Mats episode, and today I’m going to show you how to actually write a blog or a news article in under 10 minutes. And I don’t know about you, but if I sat down and actually needed to write an article – a 500 or 1000 word article – I would be overanalyzing it, I’d be sitting there going, re-reading, making sure it all looks good, going over it and over and over and just going ‘Oh my goodness, is it sounding right?’ Then I’d go send it to 5 people and make sure it is right, and I’d go, ‘Whew – they think it’s alright; great, let’s go put it up’ but I’ve gone and wasted hours and hours worth of time to do that. Why? Because I can talk a lot better about anything than what I can do with writing. So reality is, a way to get your blogs or news articles written within under 10 minutes is: go and record your speaking word; go and do what I’m doing now. I will actually be sending this video to go and get transcribed and that will then go up onto my website as a blog with the video and we can go, ‘Wow! Tick…win!’ We’ve just done 2 things: we’ve done a video blog as well as a written blog, so Google can go and chase it up and go do what it needs to. And the good news is you can then go get that written blog – more copy written – so it actually focuses for all of the search engine optimizations and all those fancy words to really get out there on the website.
So how do we do this? Well, first of all, all you need is a video camera or a smart phone – or something like that – that can actually record your spoken word. For instance, you just want an audio recorder. You don’t have to have video like I’m doing now, but you can actually just talk into your phone, record what you’re talking about and then upload it into your computer. Once you’ve done that, you can find on the outsourcing websites – like oDesk or Elance – somebody that will transcribe that audio for you pretty quickly. So that is – I think my transcriber is roughly $1.25 per minute of audio. And if you think about it, you do 10 minutes’ worth of audio which equates to roughly about 1200 words – which is quite a lot – you will find that it’s only going to cost you roughly $10 to get that done; then you can actually publish that to your website – get your website designer or if you know how to do blogs – then you can push it up straight there. And you will find that I’ve done a lot of these video blogs and transcribing; for instance, Sick Business on Google is now number 4 or 5 in the Google lists if someone types in ‘sick business’, or for me just recording about ‘what is a sick business?’ and getting it up there. For all of you people out there that just cannot sit down or don’t have the time to write a blog, well, reality is you should be able to record your voice in about 4 to 5 minutes and effectively get it out there and have a blog automatically written for you. And just to have a look at the equivalent, one minute is roughly 200 words – and that’s not a lot of words for one minute’s worth of actual audio.
So what you need to do – get out there and do it, just get it done, and if you have any troubles, we here at Black Belt Business will be more than happy to show you how it’s done.
