On the Mats: Where to Focus Marketing
What’s the number one thing you need to be focused on when building your marketing strategy? Come and find out and I’ll share with you…
Hi guys, Nathan McDonald from Black Belt Business, and today I’m going to come to you about the number one thing you need to focus on when doing your marketing strategy – and a lot of people forget to do this, and we really need to over-analyze it. And I can keep waffling on, but how about I just get straight to the point?
The number one thing we need to be looking at with your marketing strategy is your commitment objective: What should this marketing strategy be doing? Now, let’s use a perfect example: let’s say that you’re going to send out, say, a video blog – all right? Exactly what I’m doing now – a video blog – what is the commitment objective that you want someone to do after the video blog? If you’re going to send out, say, a flyer – what is the commitment objective? What is the call to action? What do you want the person to do? Now, reality is, in our minds, we want – right, ‘let’s go straight to the jugular’, straight to ‘let’s actually get the person to buy something’. And you know what guys? That’s great, but reality is, it doesn’t work – it’s like on the first date asking someone for their hand in marriage. You know what? Does that work for a few people? Absolutely it has, and that’s going to be great; good on them – but reality is, most people like to be courted over a period of time – and this is the same as marketing, and this is the same as knowing what your commitment objective is. You’ve really got to have a look at: what do you want them to do with that marketing piece?
So many times we just throw the words on: ‘Call Now!’ – you know – phone number, or ‘Check Out Our Website Here’ and you know, reality is – is that enough these days? Have a commitment objective, not just have a ‘call now’, but ‘Call now and we will give you a free XYZ’ right? We want to nurture that relationship; you’ve got to have a commitment objective. If you’re doing social media, what is your commitment objective? Are you just asking them to buy straight away? How would you like someone to be writing there on your Facebook profile saying, ‘Hey! Come and buy off us right now! We have these things’? You know, you get the spam emails – does it frustrate you? Probably. I know it frustrates me. So have a commitment objective; nurture them; have the next step – and this is something we forget when doing our marketing strategies. It’s not just there to try and sell them something – yes, the end objective is that, way at the end here – but have them to do a step. Do you give away a free report? Do you give them a free something? Do you actually show them to a catalog or ‘download your catalog now’ or what is the commitment objective? And whatever that next step is, that should then have a commitment objective: what is it you want them to do after that? Then the next step is another commitment objective. What is your commitment objective with every piece of marketing strategy you’re putting into place? And guys, we’ve got to have a look at that, and have a look at your marketing strategies right now. Has it got a clear commitment objective for the person to be doing something? Have a look at it; be honest; be clear, and if it’s not, go and change your marketing to have that commitment objective.
